| Wife | Hello. You're early today. You usually get back at six o'clock on Wednesdays. |
| Husband | I know. But today, I left the office at four o'clock. |
| Wife | Why? |
| Husband | I went to the shops. I bought a present for you. Look! |
| Wife | Oh, that's lovely! |
Situational Dialogue 2
| 1st Man | What would you like? Beer? |
| 2nd Man | No, not beer. Thanks. May I have a gin and tonic? |
| 1st Man | Of course. A gin and tonic and another half of bitter for me, please. |
| Barman | Certainly, sir. |
| 1st Man | Do you always come here at lunchtime? |
| 2nd Man | No. I sometimes go to the restaurant downstairs. |
Situational Dialogue 3
| 1st Man | What did you do on Saturday? |
| 2nd Man | I went to the football match. I saw Arsenal and Liverpool. It was a good game. Did you go? |
| 1st Man | No, I didn't. I usually go to the match, but last Saturday I took my family to Brighton. |
| Wife | I'm back. I've been to the shops. |
| Husband | What did you buy? |
| Wife | I bought a skirt and some shoes and this bag. Look! |
| Husband | Very nice. |
| Wife | And it wasn't expensive. |
| 1st Man | Did you see the football on television last night? |
| 2nd Man | No, I was out. I always go out on Mondays. |
| Barman | Two halves of bitter. |
| 2nd Man | I didn't ask for two halves of bitter. I order one half and one gin and tonic. |
| Barman | Sorry, sir. I will get a gin and tonic. |
